Movie remakes are inevitable nowadays, and Hollywood has a long track record for remaking some of its most outstanding films. Adaptations have been a controversial topic across the industry. But let's take this positive and see how and why these movies need a revamp for a new generation of moviegoers. Stick to the end and discover ten films that require an immediate redo.
1. 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968)
2001: A Space Odyssey is an epic science fiction film produced and directed by Stanley Kubrick. The story unfolds as humanity discovers some artifact remnants beneath the lunar surface. It was a cinematic gem through and through despite the time limited technology for filmmaking. However, considering advancements in computer-generating imaging it would be exciting to see a new version of this movie using modern CGI.
2. North By Northwest (1959)
It is an American thriller that tells the story of an advertising man, Roger Thornhill, who lands himself in big trouble when mistaken for George Kaplan. North By Northwest was the movie that helped kickstart an era of fantastic thrillers. Although North by Northwest was the finest movie of its genre, it was less accessible to the new generations. A restoration is required to make it more appealing, in which a hero goes on an adventure trip across the country.
3. Back to the Future (1985)
Despite being the perfect story, imagine what this first-time travel film would look like in 2100 with modern-day special effects. Due to its catchy script and hilarious performance, Back to the Future keeps the audience engaged till the end. The director, Michael J. Fox, has hinted about the Back to the Future reboot. He is considering Tom Holland and Robert Downey Jr to take on the shoes of Marty McFly and Doctor Brown.
4. Stalker (1979)
Stalker is a 1979 Soviet science fantasy art film from Russia directed by the famous Andrei Tarkovsky. The story unfolds as a mysterious guide leads two men to a zone to find a room that fulfills their wishes. Since no direct overhaul is reported, the film inspired many projects. Its profoundly compelling story, combining Sci-fi elements with philosophy and psychology, deserves to be watched by modern audiences.
5. The Breakfast Club (1985)
This movie is iconic but could use a reinvention as it is somewhat dated in the 80s. The Breakfast Club is a story of five high school students who face detainment in the library on a Saturday morning. A potential reboot could still use this story but with a new character to resonate with the modern time audience.
6. The Truman Show (1998)
The Truman Show is yet another iconic movie on the list starring the great Jim Carrey. Since the film used popular themes when it was made, it is old and dated for some. The story follows an insurance salesperson who discovers his life is a reality TV show. Imagine a modern remake of this film with current technology telling the story of a person unaware he is the star of his show.
7. Jaws (1975)
I have seen this film, and let's be honest, there is nothing wrong with the original Jaws. However, the film still has the potential to be remade using modern GCI technology. In the movie, a giant killer shark fatally attacks the swimmers on the shores of Amity Island. The film's remaster would be terrifying and amazing with modern visual effects. Sadly, Steven Spielberg said he would never remake the movie.
8. To Kill a Mockingbird (1962)
This novel turn-movie adaptation needs a revisit as soon as possible. To Kill a Mockingbird is a movie based on a novel of the same name by Harper Lee. A handful of English classics today enjoyed this 1962 black and white. However, this powerful novel-turn movie tells a story that should be given a 21st-century update.
9. 300 (2006)
300 is Zack Snyder's finest work. You must be thinking, why does this film need an update? It could be more historically accurate. It could use modern-day VFX to look less tacky due to the heavy use of green screens. These two might be the potential reasons for the recast of this action-packed charm.
10. The Goonies (1985)
The director of this masterpiece has announced the film's sequel in 2014. However, development has yet to be made in this regard. It is the story of a group of young misfits called “The Goonies” who discovered a map and set out on an adventure to find treasure. We wish someone would give this famed 80s a modern reshoot with the cast of “Strangers Things.”
