Adding a reference to historical events in a comedy movie is a clever way of uncovering past events in historical jokes. Comedy movie fans not only enjoy a good laugh but also unravel the wit of these historical events and chuckle a lot. You won't get ten movie jokes if you know their history.

1. Sesame Street (1969)

This was the first children's television program to gain massive popularity. One of the silly references was that Big Bird's teddy bear was named Radar. However, the Radar was an adult male character on MASH. The fun fact is that MASH also had a teddy Radar. Some viewers didn't even realize that BB had a teddy bear. Also, the two Radars share the name but have no connections.

2. The Naked Gun (1988)

Frank and Ed stung their face and hands eating red-dyed pistachios in a scene for The Naked Gun. This scene is a classic comedy moment, as red-dyed pistachios were a common snack in the past, and its humor is related to that specific product. Since red-dyed pistachios are available like in older days, the viewers wonder if the younger generation would ever understand the gag behind this situation.

3. The Shining (1980)

Stanley Kubrik's The Shining is said to be the best horror movie ever made. It is full of references and catchphrases. One of these catchphrases is when Jack Nicholson says Here's Johnny in a darker and sinister way; he is not talking about himself. Instead, he was referring to John Carson's iconic introduction of each episode of The Tonight Show.

4. Back to the Future (1985)

In the Back to The Future movie, a 17-year-old teenager named Marty Mcfly accidentally goes 30 years into the past with time travel. Marty at a cafe orders a Pepsi Free without realizing that it is the year 1955. The server tells him that he has to pay for it. The fun fact is that Pepsi Free was a product, and its original name was Caffeine Free Pepsi. So, Marty was ordering a caffeine-free Pepsi, and people back then had no idea about it.

5. Blazing Saddles (1974)

This iconic Western black comedy film by Mel Brooke has a scene when Mongo first arrives in this town on his bull. Seeing him, a man shouts Mongo! Santa Maria. The Mongo Santa Maria was a pun name for a highly regarded Afro-Cuban jazz musician. Though adding these lines was a clever addition of humor to the scene, most of the new-generation audience is unaware of this mid-20th-century musician.

6. Top Secret (1984)

In the action comedy film, Ford Pinto's explosions are exaggerated to add humor. In this scene, two cars barely tap a parked Ford Pinto and immediately erupt into flames, creating a satirical humor about the safety concerns of this vehicle. Ford Pinto was notorious for its faulty engine design, which caught fire in case of collision.

7. Who Framed Roger Rabbit (1988)

A scene from a Who Framed Roger Rabbi comedy/crime movie shows the character of Judge Doom, who explains the future of Los Angeles and how freeways will connect all the major cities in California before the concept of freeways was introduced to people. 

8. Airplane (1980)

In the disaster comedy Airplane, there is a scene with a joke that Jim never vomits at home. At first, it feels like the scene references the rapid-fire humor of the movies. However, it actually refers to the Yuban Coffee ad.

9. Deadpool (2016)

In a post-credit scene of this movie, Ryan Reynolds directly addresses the audience while wearing a bathrobe and asking if they are still sitting there after the credits have rolled. Now, the humor is that Ryan realizes that the audience is still sitting there even after the movie has ended.
