15 American Things Not Found in Canada

Both countries have much in common as they belong to the same continent. Although the US and Canada are neighbors, they differ in many unexpected ways. That is why the living experience is different in both countries. Here are 15 things America has that you probably wouldn’t find in Canada.

1. Little Debbie Snack Cakes

The first item on the list is a Little Debbie snack cake. It is a massive brand in the US. Unfortunately, Canadians won't be able to munch on it anymore because a Canadian distribution company has ended its business ties with the brand. Americans are also bummed about it too. In November 2022, Manufacturer Mckee made a tough call to stop selling the yummy snack cakes, and they said this is a move that may last forever.

2. Deep Fried Everything

Deep-fried everything? Yes, this is something you can only find in America. Fried food is enormous worldwide. According to a report shared by Statisca, deep fryer sales worldwide amounted to $435,198,848.00, and you know what much of which was consumed in the United States. In the US, they have a flair for deep-frying everything from chicken to Oreos. It appears tasty, but they have some concerns about it in Canada.

3. Target

Target is a prominent American store corporation that operates a discounted and hypermarket chain. Even though Target may seem popular, do you know? It only operates in the US. Yes, there used to be Target outlets in Canada, but they all closed down in 2015 due to extensive renovation needs. So, the Target is something you will find only in the US.

4. Easy Cheese

You would not find Doritos Light in the stores because it has been banned. They are prohibited due to health issues. Frito-Lay tried to make them healthier by using synthetic fat olestra. Still, it did not suit people's stomachs, causing some problems. So, it is now available only in the United States because Canada and Europe have said nope to them.

6. The Imperial System of Measurement

The sixth thing you will find missing in Canada is the inch measurement. If you think Canadians understand the measurement in inches, you must rethink this. Imperial measurements of pounds and inches are only used in America, Liberia, and Myanmar. In Canada, kilograms and meters are used.

7. Lean Cuisine

Nestle also removed your favorite frozen entrées and dinners from Lean Cuisine from the Canadian shelves in 2023. Just like with Stouffer's, Lean Cuisine didn't fit Nestle's plans for growth. This meant Canadians had to say goodbye to easy access to delicious meals.

8. Candied Jalapenos

Candied jalapenos are extremely popular in places like Texas. These highly versatile products are loved on everything from sandwiches to crackers. Hulu is an American subscription streaming media and content hub. Say goodbye to your Hulu favourites if you plan to move to Canada. So, Hulu is exclusive to the US.

10. Over-the-Top Patriotism

This term over-the-top Patriotism' might sound strange to you because everyone loves his country in one way or another. But Canada commends the US for its patriotism. Americans love their country, with flags on display everywhere and the term  ‘proud to be American.' It makes a lot of sense when you visit the United States.

11. HBO Max

Like Hulu, another streaming platform on the list, HBO Max cannot be streamed across the border. Due to licensing and geolocation restrictions, it only operates in the US. You have to settle for services like Crave instead. But if you can't miss your favourite season, you must bear extra costs for VPN services.
