Have you ever been suddenly pulled over when driving one day? It happens to the best of us, even if it is a minor driving slip-up. And if you haven't done anything wrong, try staying calm, and most importantly, don't say these phrases mistakenly, or you'll get into trouble. Starting with the most common:
1. “I Didn't Do Anything Wrong!”
In any situation, this is the worst thing to say if pulled over. Rambling this before the policeman starts speaking could make him think you're guilty. Even if you did not break the traffic rules, you're probably under suspicion now. Instead, stay calm and listen carefully, and they'll probably let you tag along.
2. “You Don't Know Who I Am!”
Over-efficiency never leads to good things, especially in a police confrontation. So, suppose the officers will let you off quickly because you're related to the president. In that case, it's definitely setting a bad example. Just admit that you were speeding rather than name-dropping relatives to avoid getting a speeding ticket.
3. “I Was Only Joking”
Have you ever said something funny so that the policeman might dismiss you, but instead, he finds you a ticket? Chances are he found your behavior disrespectful, landing you in a worse situation. Cut the joker act and sober up to the conversation to avoid misunderstandings.
4. “But It Was Just a Small Mistake”
If you're looking for big trouble, this sentence might be enough to send you to jail. No police officer wants to hear you downplay lawbreaking. This means you have admitted your mistake and will now be charged. In this case, if you did tweak the rules, calmly admit it honestly. Who knows, a good impression might save you!
5. “How Much Will It Take To Let Me Go?”
Let's be honest. No amount of bribery will save you from jail. Besides, bribery is punishable by law, so it's best not to engage in it. The officer will think you consider yourself above the law and will indeed press charges for a tactic like this.
6. “It Was Just One Drink, I'm Not That Drunk”
Drinking and driving certainly don't go well together, and if you are a bit drunk, do not bargain a way out. A breathalyzer will show the truth, whether one drink or a few. When caught, it is best to step down for the safety of other drivers and yourself.
7. “Shouldn't You Be Catching Bad Guys?”
The one thing police officers hate is a sassy remark about their job. You do not want to play around in a serious situation like this. It will get you into more trouble and look like you're discrediting the police service. So, always think before you speak.
8. “You Can Search My Trunk”
Did you know that police officers can't search cars without permission? And if they do ask for consent, you can always refuse. By out rightly saying these words, you are putting yourself under the microscope. Remember this information the next time a police officer tries to stop you.
9. “I Don't Have Time for This”
It is annoying to be stopped when you're hurrying to get somewhere on time. In such moments, frustration gets us, and we say something like this. If you are running late, this mistake will land you in a thorough interrogation by the police that nobody wants to face.
10. “I Was Going Fast Because of an Emergency”
There is no excuse for speeding except in rare situations. Even then, you don't want to be caught admitting to breaking the law. Just say something like, “I apologize, but thanks for the warning,” or “I'll be extra careful next time,” hopefully, the officers will understand your urgency.
11. “Look, We Can Work This Out”
It doesn't matter if the policeman is your buddy; there's no dealing with authority figures with negotiation. Trying to cancel the charges on your expired license or previous tickets won't make them go away. These checks are hardly solved by dealing with the officer, so refrain from attempting this trick.

12. “Don't Teach Me the Law”
Irritated because the officer keeps repeating the rules? Guess what? That is their job; believe it or not, you can't tell them to stop enforcing the law. The roads will become extremely unsafe if no one points out rash drivers. Sometimes, it is easier to amend mistakes than defend your argument.
13. “I Wasn't the Only One Breaking the Traffic Rule”
The first rule of being interrogated is never telling the police officer what to do. This is common when drivers are caught speeding past a red light. It is unethical to break the law if you see others doing it and get you in the police's bad books.
14. “Can I Go Now?”
Watch your tongue when pulled over; this phrase is something you never want to say. First, it will come off as very irresponsible or ignorant. Second, it might make the police constable angry. This can lead to a lecture on safe driving, and who knows? They might not let you go that easily.
15. “My License Expired but I Know How to Drive”
Any officer will complain about an expired license because it has to be renewed for several reasons. They check to see if your driving skills have worsened due to age or medical reasons. They also make sure that the license belongs to you and is not counterfeit. Hence, no excuses work when there's an expired license.
