You have been facing some relationship problems if you're reading this article. You know this dating thing isn’t getting easy despite the numerous dating apps and the prevalence of social media. It’s a tough world, especially when some guys constantly steer clear of long-term relationships. Don’t blame us if you hate guys after reading their terrible excuses!
1. Commitment Phobia
Let's accept that most guys are terrified of commitment, especially committing to a stable and long-term relationship, without getting too deep into the reasons. For them, it may feel like losing many things they are comfortable with, like their freedom, space, time, etc. And you can’t fault them here!
2. Dating Apps
These dating apps serve the opposite of their intended purpose. The thrill of using them, matching, and chatting with people is way more exciting for many men. Dating apps make it seem like endless matches are waiting for you, and exploring their options is way more fun for guys than being tied down to a healthy and committed relationship.
3. Fear of Missing Out
Social media plays a huge role in perpetuating men’s FOMO. Whenever you open social media, you see photos and posts of seemingly perfect couples or single people boasting about enjoying their single lives. This reinforces men’s idea that being in a committed relationship will take away the joy and spontaneity of their bachelor life.
4. Time
Many men also cite a time crunch for not pursuing long-term relationships. It takes work to prioritize a relationship between studies, work, establishing a career, and having a social life. Though this argument can be valid for both men and women, we've got to admit that the expectation to be established is put on men.
5. Career First
Building on that, men prioritize their careers above everything because, despite slowly changing societal expectations, men are still expected to be well-settled before getting into a long-term relationship. In a highly competitive world, relationships often take the back seat. They don't have the time or emotional bandwidth to invest in meaningful relationships.
6. Lack of Emotional Availability
It's no secret that men generally find it very difficult to show emotion and vulnerability. Relationships of any kind require both parties to be emotionally mature and available to grow together. Unfortunately, guys lack in that department, which plays a role in their inability to form or maintain deep connections.
7. Bad Experience
You’d be surprised how many guys avoid long-term relationships because they’ve had bad experiences. Time does heal, but it can be difficult to trust people again and put yourself in that position. Commitment requires a lot of trust, opening up to an entirely new person again, and hoping they don’t break your heart – that can be very scary!
8. Casual Culture
This, again, is derived from social media and the easy availability of dating apps. The world is very fast-paced now, and for some guys, it’s easier to participate in hookup culture to satisfy their immediate needs. It’s more thrilling and enjoyable without the attachment and complications of serious relationships.
9. Unrealistic Expectations
The media has been known to influence mindsets and beliefs very rapidly, and in this case, men may have some superficial idea of what long-term relationships must look like. This causes problems when one party fails to reach those expectations. Men might think they cannot measure up to some fantasy their partner expects.
10. Bad Relationship Models
Only some people are lucky enough to experience healthy and sound relationships around them. Men who grew up watching couples that were toxic and not good for each other internalize those fears. They either run away from long-term relationships to avoid being in that poisonous scenario altogether, or they don’t want to repeat the cycle.
11. Cultural Differences
It’s not all rainbows and sunshine, even when the two parties genuinely love. Topics like these must be discussed before getting too deep into a relationship. Some guys may hesitate to pursue something stable if the other person comes from a different cultural or religious background.

12. Communication Problems
For any relationship to continue, communication is critical. The same goes for long-term romantic relationships, which probably require more effective communication, but it doesn’t come easy for most men. Guys may struggle to express their feelings and opinions, which can be overlooked initially, but they eventually lead to frustration and misunderstandings.
13. Financial Struggles
Even if society has changed a little, and men are not expected to run the household alone, men usually want to prove they can afford to. Thus, financial struggles can be a significant factor in why a guy may not commit to a long-term relationship. They may feel they cannot afford to maintain a family, split bills, etc.
14. The Search for a Soulmate
Finding your soulmate has been so idealized that guys may be holding out to find their soulmate. They may not be willing to settle down until they find their true soulmate—an idealized version of their perfect partner. Of course, finding that version of someone in real life will be next to impossible!
15. They’re Just Not Ready
Lastly, you cannot force someone to commit to something they’re not ready for. It’s as plain and simple as that—some guys may not be ready for a long-term commitment, which could be due to many reasons, including mental health struggles, financial matters, or their willingness. You cannot rush these things!
