Workaholics Anonymous: 15 Signs You’re Overworking Yourself

Most professionals feel overworked at some point in their careers. Being overworked means your job takes over your life. However, maintaining a work-life balance is essential, especially during tough times. Read this article to learn 15 symptoms of overworking.

1. You're Less Productive

Work-life balance is essential because longer working hours make employees less productive. We are meant to work for only a short time, not nonstop. So, to manage your work, you can make a to-do list. Try to complete at least the top three critical works and cross the finished work. It will boost your mental health.

2. You Turn To Alcohol

This might be weird to some, but studies show that people who work longer hours turn to the consumption of alcohol. Drinking can make it difficult for you to focus and lead to severe health issues. So, if, due to extra workload, you are consuming alcohol, it is a sign. To avoid this, you can listen to good music, take breaks during working hours, and reduce screen time.

3. Fatigue

When we say we are fatigued, we do not only mean we are feeling sleepy or tired. Fatigue, by default, indicates a lack of energy and motivation, which prevents us from doing quality work. Working extra hours in a week will often leave you tired.

4. Insomnia

If you feel a high level of stress at work, it will result in insomnia. As you continuously keep your mind busy making proposals, researching, and dealing with clients from morning to night, this stimulant causes sleep difficulty. You only need to take short breaks and stretch at intervals to relax your body.

5. Your Body Aches

Sitting for long hours causes soreness and muscle tension. If this practice continues, it turns into chronic pain, and work stress can make it even worse. Don't overlook the early signs your body gives you. Focus on the issue timely before getting into serious trouble.

6. Your Relationships Are Taking a Hit

Commonly, work takes precedence over our personal lives, and we cannot make enough time for family and friends. Strain in your relationships due to overwork affects not only your relationship but also your mental health. There is a need to maintain a healthy balance between your work and family.

7. You Feel Blue

Feeling stressed all the time increases cortisol levels in our body, causing depression. Following a boring routine like just eating, staying alone, and sleeping can increase depression. Hanging out with friends or family and planning for weekends are great motivators. This will shift your mind from a work burden to something relieving.

8. You Rely on Stimulants To Get Work Done

People experiencing overwork are often overtired and need frequent stimulants to complete their to-do lists. Coffee, tea, and caffeine pills are commonly used by people with more workload and mainly depend on them. These stimulants are temporary fixes and help them finish their tasks, but they have long-term health consequences.

9. You've Had One or More Stress Injuries

Stress injury occurs when you feel a specific strain or stress in a particular part of your body, such as your hands, shoulders, feet, etc., due to overusing that part. For example, your fingers might have stress injury if you spend more time typing and your feet more while standing. You are overworked if you often feel stress injury in different parts of your body.

10. You Dread Going to Work Every Day

Lack of motivation to go to work indicates overwork. Most people feel demotivated and dread going to work because they know that no matter how hard they work, they will be unable to complete it. This is not because you don't have guts, but the work is more than your capacity.

11. You Have Trouble Relaxing
