The stereotyping and preconceived notions are a historical practice and not new. The social, political & cultural beliefs of the individual determine the demonization of a topic. However, rather than just demonizing critically, examining things can help overcome this. Following are fifteen things society has demonized that should be considered normal:
1. Mental Health
Self-help is the best help, but that might not always be the case. At times, you'll need somebody to help you. Everybody has a different stress coping mechanism, varying from person to person. Some may express it, while others may conceal it to avoid being labeled as an attention-seeker by society. Therefore, providing social support and observing your social circle is crucial.
2. Standing for Change
Obedience and compliance are good, but blind obedience is harmful. That's why it is quoted, “Ignorance is bliss.” A person who is unaffected by authorities' behavior is fortunate, as society praises them. But, on the contrary, if someone questions the system, authorities, or something wrong, they get pulled down and demonized by our societal culture.
3. Body Positivity
Mainstream media has a great influence on the general public. It is undeniable that the media doesn't shape the narrative of people amongst topics. The models shown centric to these narrow beauty standards make people insecure about their bodies. We need to promote body positivity & embrace this diversity that differentiates us from one another.
4. Sexuality
Throughout history, sexuality topics have been considered taboo & repressed in different cultures. However, repressing it is no way & may lead towards depression, anxiety and identity crisis. It is an important part of any individual's personality. Therefore, it's high time to normalize healthy conversations around sexuality to help empower individuals and embrace their sexual identities.
5. Introversion
Every person has their own social tendency and openness to communication level. Some people are brilliant at initiating a conversation, while others may feel shy or even anxious to reply; these are called introverts. Society has demonized introverts as they're frequently compared with extroverts. It's okay to enjoy your own company & this comparison is useless.
6. Chance for Mistakes
We often hear people say mistakes help us become better and excel towards perfectionism. However, these are just statements and not action-driven words. The problem is rooted in our communication gaps. People must understand that one mistake cannot define your whole life. So, normalizing conversations about making mistakes and learning from them is essential to promote healthier outcomes.
7. Aging
Ageing is a natural process that everyone goes through. Society's obsession with youth and beauty is so strong that it has created so-called beauty standards, leading to ageism and discrimination against older individuals. Ageing can occur in any phase of life, so one shouldn't hesitate to embrace diversity with confidence.
8. Feminism
The term “feminism” first emerged in the late 18th century. It advocates for gender equality and safeguards women's rights, which are misunderstood and demonized today. The toxic feminine movements may have contributed significantly to this stereotyping. Building a society where no gender is superior and all have fair opportunities can put an end to this debate.
9. Slow Living
Technology advancements and globalization have contributed to rapid civilization and competition in the world. This competition lies everywhere, from resources to opportunities and utilities. Life is meant to be enjoyed and revelled in, but often, we get so busy that we forget to cherish the small joys of life. So, taking a moment to simplify and achieve a mindful lifestyle won't cost you anything.
10. Disability
Not everybody is blessed with a perfectly able body. Life is always unfair to everybody in some ways. People with disabilities are marginalized and often underestimated in society. They are looked down upon & sympathized as being unfortunate. But understanding that they're differently abled than us & can mitigate this stigma to help create more inclusive communities.
11. Child-Free Marriages
One of the undue pressures exerted on couples after marriage is to procreate. Having children and raising them is a great moral, financial, and emotional responsibility, and everyone may need help to take it on. Many couples believe their love life would be affected, so continuing a child-free marriage would suit their interests.

12. Masculinity Expectations
The societal ideals & norms around masculinity can often be perplexing. Psychological studies suggest that linking expectations with masculinity can limit a man's expression of emotions & freedom to be themselves. Men have feelings, too; they can feel low and cry. They shouldn't be expected to act tough and strong all the time.
13. Singlehood
Singlehood is a common type of relationship practice that involves staying unmarried or having no romantic partner at all. Many people don't like to commit to long-term relationships and, therefore, adopt singlehood. Getting married is not a fulfilling lifestyle, so normalizing it can change societal expectations and promote self-empowerment.
14. Balancing Work & Life
The rising global population leads to various social problems, such as resource depletion, unemployment, and poverty. To mitigate this risk, people opt for multiple jobs to make ends meet. However, this hustling culture can affect mental and physical health. Therefore, fostering a healthy balance along with consistent efforts can help achieve personal growth.
15. Sobriety
Gen Z is always inclined towards fun and enjoyment. Social pressure is so strong that those who don't join in are left behind. For instance, a guy who hits the gym would be questioned about how he enjoys life rather than someone who smokes. Respecting personal boundaries and the culture of sobriety should be normalized.
