Does the morning just suck!?
It doesn't have to at all! Here are 6 things to do to make the morning productive.
video transcript
Why does the morning suck so awesome? I pondered that question often. Here's the thing though doesn't have to suck. It can actually be a very very productive time. Here are six things that I do nearly every single day to stay productive in the morning and have a great trajectory for the rest of the day.
Well, first off the morning doesn't have to suck and I laugh about that because it's so laughable. Like I've seen people who have shirts that say I'm allergic to mornings and mornings are the worst time of the day and if I could wake up in something other than the morning I'd be better but gosh, it's such a bad frame on the morning because the morning is is potentially the most productive part of the day and I say potentially because everyone's variable and everyone's different however in my experience I've seen.
Myself as well as others on the convert the morning into a sanctuary into a time of really. taking into account the rest of the day as opposed to sprinting through it and getting to work or getting to wherever you need to be. It's very very productive. And it's very very enjoyable actually, believe it or not.
But here's the Practical things first when I exercise I wake up. Literally within about eight and a half minutes. I am out the door driving and here's the hack. Here's the hack. So usually when people wake up, they think about how to exercise I have to wake up. I have to turn my alarm off. I have to put my gym shoes on my socks on my pants on my shirt on then I have to walk but my gym bag sighs I'm gonna take a shower and have to bring my towel.
I gotta go in the car turn the car on drive to the gym. Go to the gym go to the class. I don't like but kind of like and then I have to be all sweaty. That's like an infestation of bees attacking you the only how I made that up. But if that's how you look at things damn exercising sucks. But here's the thing my gym clothes are my pajamas every single day.
I cannot remember the last time I actually work through pajamas to bed. So yoga pants on. Shirt ready my jackets already ready. So I'm ready to get out the door super early second. One gym bag is already packed before I even go to bed the previous night. So thinking about going to bed gym bag is packed right next to the door.
Literally. I cannot go to the door without hitting the gym bag talk about path of least resistance. And you want that when you're creating a new. And making something effective because if you don't have that path of least resistance, you're going to hit snooze and you're not going to go. So exercise is super important.
Whatever it is. It could be a walk around the block for 15 minutes. It has to be something though to get that morning going after I ramped up my day with a good sweat of exercising I meditate for approximately 10 minutes because here's the thing if you don't have 10 minutes in your day. Then you really haven't unmanageable life and unmanageable day.
So rearrange it. So what I do is I would only sit and lie on a couch disclaimer though. I have fallen asleep. So be careful where you meditate it could be a nice to like the one I'm sitting on right now a chair or a couch, but do a place where you actually relaxed physically not standing up on the treadmill that would be difficult.
That's simply put meditation isn't some some really. Hard thing or difficult thing to do it actually is kind of difficult, but it's not complex. I literally listen to My Breath.
And a lot of times with my hand on my stomach so I can feel the expansion and contraction of my lungs. I usually talk about to myself verbally and mentally the things I'm thankful for this nice lighting. I have four videos. This nice camera. I have this nice microphone this tripod this couch this journal this water.
I have the food. I have my fridge all these small things when you start thinking about it man. I am super blessed. So I think about that for a few minutes. I Ponder and pray for people around me. My family those friends around me people who are going through difficult things all sorts of things.
I'll search of things that I want to go to my life myself, obviously who doesn't have prayer for themselves and and a lot of times it's preparing myself for the rest of the day and just really remembering to be in the moment to be here to be now and not focused always focus on my retirement in 25 years because that's really.
I'm promised. It's not a promise thing. It may it's contingent upon me living that whole time which I may not so just remembering that today. The Here and Now is the present and the present is an absolute gift and I think about that when I'm on the couch for about 10 minutes, it's not very much time, but it's enough time to really ground me.
And remember that life is not quite as chaotic and actually does have some order. And it's quite sweet when I think about it. What I've encouraged meditating not to be is thinking about your to-do list thinking about all the things you have to accomplish and thinking about negative or things that you perceive as negative because then the meditation turns this and I have some not enjoyable the fen the goal here is the meditation to be an enjoyable time at time that you look forward to decompressing for a short time.
Re-energizing so you can get on with the rest of the day. That's what the meditation is about. It's not about. I think about that meditation. I've been to a monastery before and I've seen the Monk and they just live a different life that I don't have and that's okay. I'm not a monk. I'm a man human a little different but just enjoying that moment and understanding that today's gonna happen.
And you might as well enjoy it drink water immediately immediately. It gets your whole entire body ready to go. Usually while you're so tired of the morning is get your dehydrated. I mean think about it. You just spent six to eight hours or four and a half like me. That was all that was not very much.
Not drinking water or any fluid whatsoever. Your body is severely dehydrated. So what do I keep it a glass on your nightstand somewhere. Is it on my nightstand but somewhere like this somewhere nearby so you can drink it upon waking up. I usually drink between 16 and 32 ounces within the first hour or so of waking up and it gets my body going and we'll get your body going for the day.
I fast for the first 6 hours of my day. Yeah, six hours. People ask me why well. I think the answer is quite simple. If one is able to conquer their Primal Instinct of eating at any point possible, there's any amount of hunger or any amount of pain in your stomach. You can accomplish a lot in this life and it's not fasting for a long long period of time it's every single day and it's intermittently.
It's intermittent fasting so from 5 a.m. To 11:00 a.m. No food whatsoever. Believe me. It said something that took a lot of preparation and a lot of just simply doing and begrudgingly doing it because it's really doesn't feel good to be hungry. But here's the thing. When were digesting digesting food it takes a lot of energy for me.
I'm selfish with my energy. I don't want my body to be taking all that energy for something as. Primal as digesting food. So I want to use the energy for things like this what I'm doing right this moment my journaling my meditation my goal setting my gold checking off my brainstorming for future ideas.
and more or less everything that I want to accomplish digesting takes a lot of energy, so. And the name of self-preservation, I do not eat for six hours until 11 o'clock and believe me when along with all the hits. I eat like a madman like a like a cheetah who hasn't eaten for three days and they finally got their first gazelle.
That's what I was having meeting. So, please don't bring cameras around then that would that would be embarrassing but fasting has been super important because I'm able to use the energy for important things. And a healthy become very very productive in the morning. I have a specific plant in my journal for every single day.
Here's a picture of one. The reason I do that and here's the thing I do it before I don't do it the day of I do it the night before right down between three and seven things. I want to accomplish that day. So exercising is one meditation is another one things we talked about. Because if I don't write it down before I feel like the day is jumbled.
It's not you know, if you fail to plan you plan to fail. It's a truism. It's a maxim. It's true. If you don't prepare for anything, you're going to be like the waves taken in taken away taken and taken away and no one wants to be the waves. You want to be the wave Setter choosing when the wave comes is and when the wave goes out so having the.
And being ready and then I write down the goals. But then in the morning, I think about how the execution is going to go. I will do this at this time this at this time this at this time as opposed to just looking and saying well, I got all the things to do today actually prepare it so I'm ready and that's that single thing right there.
Forget the rest. Will they throw the rest out? Can make your whole entire day. Because now you have a true plan on what's going to happen then here's the last one. I don't do any thing on my smartphone or on my computer until 1 through 5 is complete. I've done it before as in I've gone on my smartphone or will do my email and guess what one through five disappear.
Everything is destroyed. Because my email inbox is full. Usually I'm drunk but sometimes have good stuff A lot of times of good stuff that I have to attend to that I can get to attend to and the smartphone just has so many distractions. So in a half cup is a simple thing I do is my phone is on do not disturb mode and then a lot of times actually on airplane mode.
So I would have zero distractions nothing and something I did recently actually is I logged out of every single application and social media thing I have. Simply because it's a Time suck and a lot of times it sucks me and for a lot longer than I'd like to admit. So if you sign yourself out and don't do any computer or actual work until the five-step process is complete your day is going to be productive.
