Lisa Richards, a nutritionist and author, tolerates this approach. “The diet suggests that individuals should eat certain foods and avoid others based on their blood type, and even recommends specific physical activities based on blood type,” says Richards.
5. Risks of Water Fasting: Dehydration & Complications
Water fasting, a practice in which individuals abstain from consuming anything except water for a period of 24 to 72 hours, has gained popularity as a health trend. However, it is important to approach water fasting cautiously, as it carries various risks, as explained by Kasey Hageman, a registered dietitian. “Water fasting can lead to dehydration, a drop in blood pressure, and can worsen certain medical conditions such as gout, diabetes, and eating disorders,” cautions Hageman.
6. Potato Diet: Rapid Weight Loss, Lacking Nutrients
The potato diet, a short-term fad diet that promotes rapid weight loss, restricts the food choices to only plain potatoes for a duration of three to five days. Kasey Hageman, a registered dietitian, warns about the potential drawbacks of this diet trend. “While it may result in weight loss, the potato diet is highly restrictive, lacking in certain nutrients, and can contribute to unhealthy eating behaviors,” explains Hageman.
7. Mono Diet: Consequences of Limited Food Variety
The mono diet, also known as the monotrophic diet, is a trend that promotes consuming only one type of food for a specific period, aiming for rapid weight loss. Kasey Hageman, a registered dietitian, highlights the potential health risks associated with this approach. “The monotrophic diet claims to offer quick and simple weight loss by restricting food choices to a single item, such as eggs or chocolate,” explains Hageman. “However, when you limit yourself to a single food, you miss out on essential nutrients that come from a varied diet.”

Weight-loss drinks, including various drink mixes and powders, often claim to aid in weight loss and detoxification.
