10 Destinations Tourists Didn’t Enjoy

Traveling can be a life-changing experience, but not every destination meets our expectations. From unsanitary conditions to safety concerns, there are various reasons why some places are better left off your travel itinerary. Recently on an online platform, people have shared some places they say they never want to travel to again based on their negative experiences.

1. Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum in Phnom Penh, Cambodia

Once a high school, this museum was transformed into a brutal torture chamber during the Khmer Rouge regime. As soon as the visitor stepped inside, they were confronted with a chilling display of torture devices and haunting photos of prisoners who had been tortured and murdered. It's an experience that will leave a sobering and depressing impression on anyone who visits, but the traveler insists that everyone must see it at least once.

2. Flint, Michigan

The second commenter states they want to avoid traveling to Flint, Michigan again. The reason was that they felt unsafe when they had to order their $5 Hot n' Ready pizza through three inches of bulletproof glass, which clearly indicates the high crime rate in the area.

3. Qatar

One participant claimed they wanted to avoid traveling to Qatar again. Despite its extravagant wealth, the place is bleak and full of slave labor. There is little to do as a tourist except shuffling from one shopping center to another. The locals treat tourists as lessers, and the user wonders why they believe a World Cup there would improve anything.

4. LaGuardia Airport, New York

Prepare to be let down if you're flying into LaGuardia Airport in New York City, as one user warns it's a terrible first impression of the Big Apple. While New York City may have its gritty charm, LaGuardia offers no redeeming qualities and is just plain awful, according to the user. They go as far as to say that it's pure awfulness, leaving nothing positive to say about the airport.

5. Khartoum, Sudan

One user had an unforgettable experience in Khartoum, Sudan – and not in a good way. They're not shy about their opinion that it's an absolute nightmare of a place. After living there for a year, they vow never to return, dubbing it “Hell on Earth.” It's a bold statement, but they stand by it. On the plus side, they now have the dubious distinction of having seen the worst the world has to offer, which means any future travel destination can't possibly be as bad as Khartoum.

6. Camden, NJ

Imagine driving through a place so dangerous and threatening that you abandon all traffic laws to get out alive. That's exactly what happened to one brave user in Camden, NJ. After a wrong turn led them straight into what looked like a war zone, they found themselves surrounded by locals from three sides in under five minutes. With their adrenaline pumping and their instincts on high alert, they quickly put their vehicle in a 4-wheel drive and got the heck out of there. Despite the snowy weather, they refused to stop for anything or anyone, determined to escape the danger that lurked around every corner.

7. Gary, Indiana

A daring individual once made the grave mistake of stopping for gas in Gary, Indiana. When they set foot in the gas station, they felt their stomach drop and their skin crawl. It wasn't hard to see why – a burned-out car sat abandoned in the parking lot, and the whole place was fortified with metal bars and bulletproof glass. The user knew that the city's reputation for being one of the most dangerous in America was well-deserved, and they had no intention of ever setting foot in that place again.

8. Times Square

Picture this: New Year's Eve in the heart of New York City's Times Square, where the world-famous ball drop draws crowds from all over the globe. It sounds like a dream come true, right? Well, not for this one user who had a completely different experience. Despite their initial excitement, the overcrowded and chaotic atmosphere quickly became a nightmare. After two long hours of battling the crowds to catch a glimpse of the festivities, they finally surrendered and sought refuge in a cozy Korean barbeque place.

9. Kuwait

Thinking about visiting Kuwait? Think again. Despite its initial appeal, this destination can quickly become a tourist nightmare. Don't just take our word for it – one traveler who went with a local guide in February described the experience as uncomfortable and distressing. Unfortunately, the mistreatment of the majority of the population, especially those of East Asian heritage, is a common occurrence. It's impossible to ignore the painful wealth gap and the submission of the locals who are treated as inferior.

10. Jamaica

Beware of the aggressive peddlers in Jamaica, as one traveler discovered the hard way. Unfortunately, their experience is not unique. The peddlers are notorious for their overbearing sales tactics that can overwhelm and frustrate you. Imagine being constantly badgered by pushy and persistent vendors trying to pawn off shoddy souvenirs that you have no desire to buy. But wait, it gets even worse – these vendors can become downright hostile and angry when you decline their offers.
