Frodo Would Have Lost The Ring: 14 Sidekicks Who Deserve Their Own Movies

While heroes take the spotlight in the cinematic universes, there are some remarkable characters that are often overlooked. Called as sidekicks, these are the unsung heroes without whom the lead character is incomplete. From comedic relief to exceptional loyalty, they have a lot to offer. That said, let's have a look at some of the sidekicks that are so diverse that only a separate movie can do justice to their characters.

1. Samwise Gamgee (The Lord of the Rings – 2001)

Samwise Gamgee, a faithful companion to Frodo Baggins in The Lord of the Rings, stole the show with his loyal and courageous demeanor. His transformation journey from a simple gardener to Middle Earth's savior was worth exploring. A film solely based on his struggles would offer a fresh view of Tolkien's epic tale.

2. Robin (The Lego Batman Movie – 2017)

While the sidekick is supposed to do what the hero says, the case with Robin in The LEGO Batman Movie is a bit different. Not only does he support the lead's character wholeheartedly, but he also helps him see his mistakes and become a better person. In a solo movie, viewers can get to explore his life before meeting Batman and the events that shaped his remarkable spirit.

3. Randy (My Name Is Earl – 2005)

In the movie My Name is Earl, Randy's innocence and loyalty towards Earl is a spotlight stealer. His fear of chickens adds a comic touch to the movie. And his actions driven by a simple yet profound dedication, makes him deserving of his own film. Detailed insights into his unique character traits and adventures could give viewers a perfect cinematic masterpiece to enjoy.

4. Igor (Young Frankenstein – 1974)

Igor in Young Frankenstein played the classic role of Dr. Frankenstein's assistant, whose humor was the highlight. His quirky personality, along with perfect comedic timing, turned him into an unforgettable character. Considering the depth he added to the story, Igor definitely deserves a separate movie where viewers can explore more of his background and misadventures.

5. Chewbacca (Solo: A Star Wars Story – 2018)

In Solo: A Star Wars Story, you can witness the iconic duo of Han Solo and Chewbacca in action. Their unique partnership shapes the plot of the movie. Chewbacca's loyalty does not leave, even in the face of danger, up to Han's tragic demise. Narratively, his presence adds to the essence of Millennium Falcon, making him worthy of a movie where he plays the lead.

6. Doc Holliday (Tombstone – 1993)

A real-life character of Tombstone, Doc Holliday was the ideal sidekick a hero could ever wish for. Not only was he an experienced gunslinger, but he also had a professional degree as a dentist. His victory against Johnny Ringo in a duel saved Wyatt Earp's life, marking him as the unsung hero of the movie.

7. Darcy Lewis (Thor – 2011)

Initially introduced as a political science student in Thor, Darcy Lewis immediately became a fan favorite. Her witty behavior made viewers relate to her character closely. Her transformation from merely a simple character to the MCU's central figure is worth a watch. While she is featured in the sequels of this series, her personal journey deserves a picturization of its own

8. Luis (Ant-Man – 2015)

Luis, Scott Lang's friend and former cellmate, is another sidekick who has earned a special place in the hearts of fans. His personality traits, like detailed storytelling, make him a unique character of Ant-Man. On top of it, he possesses the much-required charisma that could easily carry a heist film focused on exploring his adventures in security with X-Con Security.

9. Nakia (Black Panther – 2018)

Lupita Nyong'o's portrayal as Nakia in Black Panther is a gem in the Marvel world. Not only is she a War Dog and T'Challa's love interest, but she also works as a spy for Wakanda. These diverse roles, along with a complex relationship with her homeland, provide rich material for a separate movie.

10. Wong (Doctor Strange – 2016)

The evolution of Wong in Doctor Strange is one of those aspects of the movie that keeps viewers interested in the storyline. From being a stern librarian to a Sorcerer Supreme and then finally transitioning as an ally of the Avengers, his journey has many turns. A film solely centered around him has the potential to become successful where viewers can delve into his backstory in detail.

11. Goose (Captain Marvel – 2019)

Goose from Captain Marvel is not a human character but a cat. And it has managed to capture the hearts of audiences with its surprising abilities as a sidekick. A separate film based on its adventures across the universe, along with comedic encounters with other Marvel characters, can break box office records.

Whenever the movie Aladdin is discussed, Genie remains the center of attention. However, there's ample room to explore the other aspects of this character's life. With his exceptional powers and centuries of experience at display, a film based on Genie would definitely interest viewers. His emotional journey towards freedom, along with his interactions with other magical beings, would add real essence to the cinematography.

12. Arthur (Inception – 2010)

The science thriller Inception features Leonardo DiCaprio in the lead role. However, it's someone else too who has managed to win the hearts of audiences with his cool demeanor and competence in managing dream manipulation. It's Arthur, the side character who deserves a movie dedicated to his own inception missions and mechanics of dream sharing.

13. Trinity (The Matrix – 1999)

Being Neo's partner, Trinity is an intimidating force in The Matrix universe. Not only does her strength and determination stand out, but her deep connection with Neo makes her superior. There should be a film that focuses on her perspective on the events that unfold in the movie, along with her backstory.

14. Ron Weasley (Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone – 2001)

Ron Weasley is an integral character in the Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone saga. He's not just a sidekick to the lead's character but a pivotal figure who faces the trials of the wizarding world. Moreover, he has featured in other installations of the Harry Potter series too.
