In the 21st century, we are so absorbed in technology, particularly our phones, that we often forget to participate in life. All of us can truthfully confess to scrolling through digital devices. To fix this habit, here are some ideas to not become a screen slave:
1. Morning Screen Breaks
Are you the type of person to look at your phone first thing in the morning? Alright, we are all guilty of this. So, avoid using the phone to check your notifications. Place your device far away from arm's reach. This way, you can feel calm and relaxed about your day. And if you continue this till noon, you've also reduced your screen time.
2. Sort Out Time for Activities
If your screen time is double-digit, it might be time to get some fresh air. Seriously, exercise and outdoor activities are vital for our health. Use those hours you usually spend scrolling to participate in a walk or a sport. Or try hobbies like baking or painting, but spend your time wisely!
3. Pre-Sleep Mantra
Try this simple trick if phones make you anxious or need a routine reset. Keep all digital devices away for at least 1 hour before sleeping. The more you use your phone, the more your brain stays awake, causing exertion. If you adopt this method, at least a good night's rest is guaranteed.
4. Tech-Free Zones For Focus
You must remove the attachment to your phone to avoid unproductivity or procrastination. A phone ring will disturb your progress, whether you're trying to study or focus on completing a task. Try making a tech-free zone in your room by removing all gadgets so that you can work soundlessly.
5. Revert to the Classics of Reading
You can always switch to the basics if you read ebooks online or online newspapers. People often tire themselves out reading off bright screens. This leads to eye strain and sometimes poor eyesight. Try switching to paperback books and magazines and save your screen time massively.
6. Calculate Screen Time
This article won't tell you to throw your phones away. Indeed, some amount of phone usage is okay. You just need to know the number of hours of your screen time. Suppose you use 7 hours daily; try to stick to that limit and not anymore. Similarly, you can reduce hours by diverting yourself to lower the average screen time of your devices.
7. Disable Notifications
This might be difficult, but it's worth it. Go to your phone settings and turn off social media and messaging app notifications. No messages will pop up on your phone and whisk you away. This way, you will not pick up your phone when busy. Disabling notifications will help you steer clear of unnecessary distractions for good.
8. Schedule Your Phone Usage
For all those folks who require a little discipline, this is for you. Plan your daily tasks and include everything in it, including your phone screen time. This way, you can allot a certain amount of time and control how much time you use your phone. This is a practical approach that is sure to give you a positive result.
9. Take a Break
You are not alone if you get annoyed when your eyes freeze on the phone screen. Phone scrolling is a hazard that can lead to dizziness and nausea. It is better to remind yourself to take a break from your phone occasionally. At least take a ten-minute break during scrolling and rest your eyes before continuing.
10. Screen Timers
This last tip will save you loads of screen time. There is a feature on smartphones that allows you to put a lock on apps when you exceed their usage in time. If you put a two-hour usage label on Instagram, your app will not open during the third hour. In conclusion, these timers teach us a lot of patience, which we usually don't practice.
