10 Absurd Things Many Expect of All Men

Social norms and standards are also changing in a world that is always changing. Some old roles, especially those related to what society expects from guys, don't go away. These unrealistic expectations are a big part of our society. They make people feel bad, stop them from expressing themselves, and reinforce negative stereotypes.

1. Men Are Good at Do-it-Yourself Projects

A lot of the time, society expects guys to be naturally handy and great at Do It Yourself (DIY) projects. Men are thought to be inherently good at fixing everything, from electrical problems to taps that leak. Different people have different levels of DIY skills, and many people, male or female, may not have these skills. Men should share home chores and get professional help when they need it. Expecting men to be do-it-yourself experts is not fair.

2. The Problem With Diapers

Traditional gender roles have long said that mothers should be the ones to change babies' diapers and care for them. But more and more people today agree that caring for children should be a shared duty between parents. Men shouldn't have to do diaper duty or should feel ashamed doing it. This reinforces old gender roles and keeps men from being involved in parenting, missing out on crucial bonding moments.

3. Driven by a Career

According to popular culture, men are still expected to be career-driven and put their work above all else. Many people don't take care of their mental health, family ties, or work-life balance because they feel like they have to. In today's world, many guys want a more balanced life, putting personal happiness, family time, and overall health above all else.

4. Cheaters Deep Down

Men are thought to be more likely to cheat on their partners than women, which reinforces negative ideas about their loyalty. This myth makes it harder for people to trust each other and can cause extra stress. Being faithful is a choice that has nothing to do with a person's gender, and this unfair image needs to be fought.

5. Obsession With Cars

Society often portrays men as car fans, reinforcing the idea that they should know a lot about cars and spend a lot of time and money on them. Some men like cars, but it's unrealistic to think that all men will share this desire. People are interested in different things, and not everyone is naturally interested in cars.

6. Fans of Sports

Most of the time, people think all guys should love sports, especially contact sports like football and basketball. Sometimes, this expectation isn't reasonable because people have different hobbies. Some men naturally like sports, and men naturally love other things that don't have to do with sports. If you think that all men are sports fans, you might push away men who aren't interested in sports.

7. Taking the First Step

In romantic relationships, men have traditionally been the ones to initiate, including making the first move on a date and showing interest. For guys who would rather date in a more balanced way, where both people are free to show interest and start conversations or relationships, this expectation can put them under extra pressure and make them feel uncomfortable.

8. Violence Was Expected

Society has sometimes linked being a man with being ready to fight or be aggressive. People may hold on to negative stereotypes and fight because of this assumption. Like women, guys shouldn't have to use violence to settle disagreements or stand up for themselves. Promoting peaceful solutions and good conversation skills is suitable for everyone.

9. No Crying

“No crying” is a false emotional limit that men should not have. It says that men shouldn't show weakness or cry. This expectation can be harmful because it makes people less likely to show their feelings and can lead to mental health problems. Guys should be able to talk about their feelings and get help when needed, just like everyone else.

10. Men Shouldn't Have Full Custody of Their Kids

Society has consistently sided with mothers in custody cases because it thinks women are generally better at caring for kids. Many people believe that men shouldn't try to get full custody of their children, even if they are able and willing to give them a loving and caring home. This is not true. These days, people think that parenting skills shouldn't depend on a parent's gender and that choices about custody should be based on what's best for the child.
